Inequality in urban vegetation cover reflects socio-environmental disparities that affect quality of life and public health. This study reviewed the international literature on urban afforestation and environmental inequality, using keywords from the Web of Science. Nine articles were selected, following PRISMA guidelines. The research revealed that the topic is rarely addressed in South America, while Europe, Asia and North America account for more than 90% of scientific research. The studies highlight that environmental inequality is central to justifying public policies that promote equitable access to green areas. In addition, urban afforestation is essential for sustainable cities that are resilient to climate change and focused on environmental regeneration.
